The weather was clear and dry with mild temperatures. Starting from County Road, participants walked the proposed access road, currently an un-improved logging road, to the site of a proposed automotive junkyard. The proposed junkyard site is a 2.9+/- acre rectangle, over 500’ feet from County Road, entirely bounded by old stone walls.

The applicant and his attorney discussed the proposed project and answered questions. The applicant stated that he proposed to run an automotive and mixed metal recycling yard, by himself, on a part time, seasonal basis.  A concrete pad or pads would be installed for metal storage and a shed or garage constructed on a slab to provide cover for automotive recycling work.  All fluids would be drained from vehicles upon arrival and stored under cover in drums within concrete half tanks until they can be removed from the site.  A fence would be built around the entire yard.  The access road would be improved with added gravel, and straightened enough to allow for tractor-trailers while leaving enough curve to hide the view of the proposed yard from the town road.

The applicant’s attorney stated that an analysis of the soils, showing that they are well suited for the proposed use, would be presented to the ZBA at the Public Hearing on October 12, 2016.

The applicant also proposes to subdivide the 2.9 acres from the balance of the property.

Some of those present then proceded to walk around and through the 2.9 acre site, and the site walk was concluded before 5pm.
