BACC Governance Board
Work Session Discussion
June 28, 2011 4:30 pm
Present: Kate Dobrowski, Bruce Edwards, Debbie Flinkstrom, Karen Hambleton, Bob Manchester, Margaret Raymond, Jim Valiquet
Absent: Will Hurley, Ona Ruchti
The meeting opened the meeting at 4:45 pm.
The Lettvin list was passed around and folks were asked to contact some of the not-yet-contacted businesses. Ads are due on July 1st.
Policies and Procedures: Jim had done some research as to other communities who run their community centers under RSA 35B. These include Lebanon, Lancaster, Meredith, Franklin and perhaps Sunapee. Lebanon is preparing for their 250th anniversary celebration, but will work with us once that has passed to share what worked and what did not for them.
Liabilities: Jim had a conversation with an attorney at LGC. We were advised to allow “low risk” events to take place in the Community Center. Parties would need a TULIP (Temporary Underwriters Liability Insurance Policy) if their homeowners or other insurance would not cover it. The attorney said that each community must decide what constitutes a low risk event. THE LGC has an events manual that gives some guidelines.
Kerry Horne (from LGC) will meet with us to guide us through the organization of our commission. She is the Parks & Rec expert.
A discussion arose about who the BACC serves. Parks & Rec organizations generally serve their specific town, however we are the Bradford AREA Community Center and want to stay true to our mission. We want to include folks from other towns in our activities and organization.
CAP Lease: The lease has been presented at an increase of approximately $850/month. That equates to $6.40 per square foot. There will be no further negotiation.
Grant: We are still working to identify an appropriate environmental project.
Other: Americorps will visit on July 14th to identify opportunities for projects to be funded by a grant so the Community Center can meet Emergency Shelter requirements.
Next meeting : July 12th 4:30pm
Next work session : July 26th 4:30
The meeting adjourned at 6:00.
Respectfully submitted, Karen Hambleton
