Bradford Conservation Commission Meeting Notes

Present: Brooks McCandlish, J. Ann Eldridge, Seth Benowitz, Meg Fearnley, George Beaton. Absent: Nathanial Bruss; Andrea LaMoreaux, Carol Meise, Patty Furness, Amy Blitzer (alternates).
Secretary’s Report: Draft minutes from February 21, 2012 meeting read and accepted with the addition of Patty Furness’ last name.
Treasurer’s Report: Interest earned, approx. $3.15. Review of budget as passed: $80, conferences and seminars, $200 Trail Maintenance, $300 Education and Public Outreach. Total of $580. Patty Furness still to be reimbursed $45 from conference last November.
Election of officers: Put off until April due to absences at this meeting.
Conferences: Saving Special Places workshop in Weare, April 14. George, Seth, Patty? To attend.
Planning Board: Review of town of Warner response to proposed automotive recycling business on aquifer and abutting Warner River. Warner Planning Board in consultation with Warner Conservation Commission offers the following recommendations:
1. Deny the proposed automobile recycling facility in this location due to the risks of pollution of the Warner River and its aquifer.
2. Should the Bradford Planning Board choose to approve the application, then we offer the following suggestions: (paraphrased…) area to be on an impervious surface to contain spills and etc. Surface water drainage control measures around site periphery, and engineering controls for storm water runoff, such as an oil/water separator should be installed as a minimum requirement.

Liberty Elm Tree: Article to appear in the Bridge. Need to find out when to pick up, how to plant…
Field trips: Hike on Bradford Bog set for September 13 (a Thursday) with Ausbon Sargent. Hike on Battles Farm easement set for August. Crew headed by Brooks to delineate and build trail. Need to contact Ed re: entrance to trail.
Land Conservation: Discussion of possible grants for land adjoining Battles Farm, currently for sale.
Natural Resource Inventory: Review of Chapters on Invasive Species and Conclusions. Remaining items – Forestry, Shoreland Protection. Insert images. A few minor additions: Steep Slope…Discussion of printing costs.
Membership: Several people need to be sworn in, Brooks, Patty. New list at clerk’s office.
