Draft Bradford Conservation Commission Meeting Notes
Date: April 19, 2011
Time: 7pm
Location: Brown Memorial Library
Present: Meg Fearnley, Brooks McCandlish, J. Ann Eldridge, Nathanial Bruss, Seth Benowitz, Patty Furness. Absent: Carol Meise, Andrea LaMoreaux, Amy Blitzer (alternate). Lucas Hahn present.
Trails: Lucas Hahn, an Eagle Scout in this area spoke of his interest in working with the Commission on the trail system. He was given information and a map of the existing trail system and will return with a proposal on what he can accomplish in the next few months. Possibilities are: trail maintenance, new trails, signage, and increasing public knowledge of recreational opportunities.
Secretary’s Report: Draft minutes from March 15, 2011 read and accepted as written.
Treasurer’s Report: Interest earned, but bank statements not available in time for this meeting. Dues to the NH Association of Conservation Commissions were paid. ($200).
Correspondence/workshop announcements:
· NH Annual Land Conservation Conference ‘Saving Special Places’ was held Saturday, April 9 in Sutton. Seth Benowitz attended and returned with a great deal of information to disseminate.
· Public presentation on April 22 – Wildlife in your Backyard. UNH Cooperative Extension program. Preparations discussed.
Planning Board: No further information to follow up with the preliminary discussion of a junkyard permit on the Warner River.
Conservation Program: Conservation Easements explained – Date set for June 9 at the Bradford Area Community Center. Seth and Ann to draft a flyer/poster with ASLPT. Potentially interested landowners will be sent a mailing. Beth McGuinn, land specialist with the ASLPT and Brian Hotz from the SPNHF will speak as well as several local landowners who have placed easements on their properties.
ASLPT: Ausbon Sargent Land Protection Trust will be holding a series of events to commemorate their 25th anniversary in 2012. Decision made to suggest July as the preferred month to highlight Bradford. Educational display and slide show will come to town.
Update of NRI: Review of chapter on soils/agricultural info with revisions suggested. Map reviewed and will be completed. Samples of aerial maps reviewed.
