Bradford Conservation Commission Meeting Minutes
October 21, 2014, 7pm at Brown Memorial Library
Present: George Beaton, Seth Benowitz, Nathanial Bruss, J Ann Eldridge, Meg Fearnley, Patty Furness, Scott MacLean, Brooks McCandlish. Also present Michelle Halstead representing the Rural Heritage Connection of Bradford, Inc.
Secretary’s Report: The meeting minutes of 9/16/14 were accepted as written.
Treasurer’s Report: Ann informed us that the NH Association of Conservation Commissions annual dues for 2015 have increased $22, from $220 to $242. Brooks moved to increase the 2015 budget to reflect this, thus presenting and requesting an $822 budget to the Bradford Budget Committee. Motion approved. Meg also has received the invoice from the Lumber Barn for planks for the bog boardwalk repair. This $286 cost will be paid out of our remaining current budget funds and also from the Forest Maintenance account.
NH Rail Trail: Michelle Halstead, representing the Rural Heritage Connection, presented plans for the Bradford/Newbury section of the proposed NH Rail Trail. Michelle used maps in this informative report to convey the aspirations to build a rail trail from Hopkinton to Claremont using public lands as well as private. She requested our assistance in an environmental assessment needed for an application for a $10,000 grant. The group voted to support this worthy project.
Ausbon Sargent Annual Meeting: George, Scott and Seth will be attending this gathering on Sunday October 26, 3pm, at the New London Historical Society.
Ausbon Sargent Conservation Commission Chair Meeting: Ann will represent on Thursday October 23.
North Ridge Road Erosion: A resident reported via e-mail that rain was causing erosion to an area along North Ridge Road and washing gravel into a wetland area. After discussion, it was decided that due to this being a private road, the residents need to consult a civil engineer. In addition, Ann mentioned that National Resource Conservation Services may be able to advise the property owners.
Sunapee Resort West Bowl Expansion: A letter was sent expressing the BCC opposition to the proposed expansion. Reason being that the mountain was intended to be a public natural resource and this expansion indelibly deteriorates the landscape for the private profit of a corporation.
Helping Wildlife Adapt to Climate Change: This Ausbon Sargent free public workshop will be presented by Emily Preston (NH Fish and Game Nongame and Endangered Wildlife Program) Thursday November 6, 6:30-8pm at the Wilmot Community Center.
Emerald Ash Borer Program: Scott will be presenting a public information session on this deadly threat to ash trees on Thursday, November 13, 7pm at Brown Memorial Library.
Bradford Sand and Gravel Pit Ordinance Hearing: An e-mail was received from the Planning Board requesting BCC presence at a meeting to review the upgrading of the gravel pit ordinance on Monday, October 26, 7pm at the Community Center. Brooks will represent the BCC and offer our input into the matter.
The meeting adjourned at 8:15pm. The next meeting will take place Tuesday November 18, 7pm at BML.
Respectfully submitted,
Patty Furness, Secretary
