Bradford Conservation Commission Secretary’s Draft Report
November 15, 2022, 7pm at Brown Memorial Library
Present: George Beaton, Seth Benowitz, Nathanial Bruss, J Ann Eldridge, Meg Fearnley, Brooks McCandlish, and Doug Southard.
Secretary’s Draft Minutes: The draft report of 10/18/22 was reviewed. Meg made a motion to accept the draft minutes as read, Doug seconded, followed by unanimous approval.
Treasurer’s Report: Meg disclosed the small amount of interest earned on accounts, in addition to $4 earned by the CD. Brooks made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report, George seconded, and all approved.
Unspent Annual Budget: There was discussion regarding protocol in the appropriation of any unspent funds from the Conservation Commission’s annual budget allotted by the town. Ann will contact NH Association of Conservation Commissions next week for clarification.
Hoyt Brook Monitoring and Data Collection: George, Ann, Carol Meise and Becca Herman recently met with Ben Nugent of NH Fish and Game and George Embley of Trout Unlimited to do a training session for collecting data in a long term stream study of Hoyt Brook. Monitoring will begin in the spring of 2023, and will be performed four times per year. Additional volunteers welcome!
10/26/2022 Rain Event: Three inches of rain resulted in erosion around a drainage ditch on property owned by Martyn Chivers on Breezy Hill Road, and sent mud and sediment into the Warner River. NH Department of Environmental Services was notified, as well as the Warner River Advisory Committee.
NH Association of Conservation Commissions Meeting: Doug and George attended the annual meeting and conference on Saturday November 11 in Pembroke. They shared what was learned at workshops each attended.
Ausbon Sargent Conservation Commission Chair Semiannual Meeting: Ann attended this recent event. One of the topics of discussion was the possible group purchase by several towns of a tire shredder to market used tires. Ann has contacted the Bradford Energy Committee, and also Lois from the transfer station to gauge interest and plausibility.
Headwaters Project: The NH Land and Community Investment Program (LCHIP) award results will be announced on Thursday 11/17, and Mooseplate Grants soon after.
Conservation: Nathanial presented a possible conservation property for discussion.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:15pm. The next meeting will be December 19, 2022, 7pm at Brown Memorial Library.
