Bradford Conservation Commission Meeting Minutes
May 21, 2013, 7:00 pm at Brown Memorial Library
Present: Seth Benowitz, J. Ann Eldridge, Meg Fearnley, Patty Furness, Brooks McCandlish. Also present Scott MacLean.
The group welcomed Scott, and voted unanimously to present him to the Selectmen as an alternate member of the BCC.
Secretary’s Report: The minutes from 4/16/13 were accepted as read.
Treasurer’s Report: Meg reported $1.04 interest on accounts. The report was accepted.
Ausbon Sargent Land Protection Trust (ASPLT) Easement Monitoring Workshop: Scheduled for Wednesday, June 12th, 2-6 pm at ASLPT headquarters in New London. An informative article will appear in the June issue of the Bridge. Scott plans to attend.
Breezy Hill Road Auto Recycling Facility Site Plan Public Hearing: Seth attended the 5/16 Planning Board meeting and voiced BCC concerns regarding fencing of the facility. The RSA requires 6′ high perimeter fencing for a visual barrier of the facility, and Seth emphasized the importance of fencing to clearly delineate the facility for inspection, as well as to prevent creep. The BCC maintains concerns for protective fencing along the 100 year floodplain of the Warner River, as well as a berm to prevent runoff into the river.
Sand and Gravel Pit Inspection: There are currently 4 sand and gravel pits in Bradford, and each requires annual inspection by a knowledgeable individual who can estimate how much material has been removed. Brooks expressed interest in doing the inspections, and will need the Board of Selectmen’s authorization.
Moose Presentation: The event will take place Friday, August 16, 7:00 pm at the Community Center.
ASLPT Woods Forum: The next woods forum will be at Amy Blitzer’s house in August. There was discussion on identification of any other landowners who may benefit from information to be presented at the event.
Independence Day Fair Booth: The decision was made to reserve a booth. The $25 fee is due 6/19, and Meg will reserve the space. Discussion on possible displays ensued. Seth will be selling his cedar birdhouses and be available as the main man at the booth. RHC may share the space and fee, as has been done in the past.
Knight’s Hill Summit Trail: Thanks to the efforts of George, Seth, Ann, Scott, Ed and Bill, the trail is marked and roughly cleared to a summit view. There was discussion on continuing the trail to become a spur at some point in the future.
Natural Resource Inventory Chapter Synopsis: Information on chapter one ‘Overview’ was written by Ann and will appear in the June edition of the Bridge.
Town Hall Conservation Commission Office: Seth and Patty volunteered to clean out old files left at the Town Hall.
Bradford Springs Hotel Site Clean Up: There is trash in the foundation area of the old hotel that needs to be taken care of. Brooks suggested doing in the fall, in conjunction with Bog boardwalk repair day. All agreed on the plan.
The next meeting will be Tuesday June 18, 2013, 7:00 pm at Brown Memorial Library.
The meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Patty Furness, Secretary
