Letter From Fire/Rescue Department regarding COVID 19

March 27, 2020

To all Town of Bradford Residents,

It is our hope that this letter finds you all well!

The Bradford Fire Department is ready to respond to your medical and fire needs.  While we are following the guidelines of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the situation continues to evolve.

COVID-19, the illness associated with the novel Coronavirus, was declared a global pandemic last week by the World Health Organization (WHO). Additionally, Governor Chris Sununu declared a State of Emergency for New Hampshire.

Governor Chris Sununu has issued a “stay-at-home order” beginning at midnight Friday March 27, 2020 through May 4, 2020.

The businesses that will be open during this time include:

Grocery stores, pharmacies, doctor’s offices, hospitals, gas stations, banks, takeout and delivery restaurants, school lunch programs.

The businesses that will be closed:

Malls, non-essential retail stores, barbershops, hair salons, cosmetic stores, tattoo shops, movie theaters, bowling alleys, arcades, concerts, sporting events, festivals and all state beaches along the Seacoast.

The CDC recommends that residents continue with good hygiene practices, which include:

  • Practice good hand hygiene! Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds including under your fingernails.  Alcohol-based hand sanitizer (at least 60% alcohol content) can be used when soap and water are not available.
  • Keep your hands away from your face.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing and sneezing and discard it immediately.  When a tissue is not available, cough or sneeze into the sleeve over your elbow instead of your hand.  Wash your hands often when coughing and sneezing.

The Bradford Fire Department wishes to remind residents who believe they may have the novel Coronavirus and/or are experiencing symptoms to stay home and call their primary care physician before traveling to their office, an emergency room or an acute care clinic. Those without a primary care physician are encouraged to call the State’s COVID-19 specific call center at 2-1-1. Reported symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, shortness of breath and respiratory illness, including pneumonia in severe cases.

When responding to your residence for a medical incident, the Bradford Fire Department personnel are required to ask several questions to assist in determining possible exposure to COVID-19, please have patience with our personnel. Those questions will be asked from six feet away before entering any dwelling. This is for the protection of our emergency medical providers. If the emergency medical providers need to enter your dwelling, they are instructed to have only one medical provider enter unless more providers are needed and to don their personal protective equipment (PPE) mask, eye protection, gloves and gown for the safety of all. They may ask you to place a facemask on as well. Our hopes, at Bradford Fire Department, is that all our residents will be safe and healthy throughout this COVID-19 pandemic, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to ask.

Bradford residents are also reminded to always call 911 in an emergency, and police, firefighters and EMS will respond as they normally would.

Sincerely,

Christopher J. Olsen Interim Fire Chief, Bradford Fire Department
