Library Trustee Minutes 04.04.12

Minutes from April 4, 2012

The Board Meeting for the Trustees of Brown Memorial Library was called to order at 6:02 p.m.

Attendance: Mary-Chris Duncan, Nola Jordan, Patty Furness, Lorraine Macleod, Bea Howe, Connie Scheffy, Rod Jones,     Meg Fearnley

1.    Patty welcomed our newest member, Mary-Chris Duncan, to the Board of Trustees.

2.    The secretary’s report was accepted as presented.

3.    A motion was made and passed to accept donations to Brown Memorial Library in March in the amount of $279.61.  $111.00 of that is part of the refund we are getting on our movie license contract.  Everything else is pretty much on target for this time of year.  The Treasurer’s Report was accepted as presented.

4.    Meg shared the circulation figures with the Board and explained that this has been a quiet month, though not out of line for March.  We have seen a jump in the number of e-books downloaded and this may be because the system is not particularly user-friendly and it seems to take patrons a while to learn how to set it up and get started.  The increase in program attendees is mostly because of story hour.  Meg hopes this will translate into more involvement with the summer reading program.

5.    Under Old Business, Bea reported that Brooks McCandlish has installed our new deadbolt lock.  He has also rekeyed all the other locks in the building to work off the same key.  When the weather is pleasant enough for the front door to stay open, he and Garry will take off the door, fix the cracks and install the new handle.

6.    Under New Business, Bea reported that Garry Kalajian has expressed his willingness to serve as an alternate trustee.  An alternate attends meetings and may participate in discussion but may not vote unless one of the regular trustees is absent.  The trustees agreed to ask Bea to contact the Board of Selectmen with our request that Garry be appointed to that position.  Such an appointment is always for a one year term.

7.    Reviewing and updating the library’s policies will continue at the June meeting.

8.    The Friends’ Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Saturday, April 7, at 11:00 a.m. and our Mud Season Book Sale will be held the following Saturday from 9:00 to 2:00.

9.    Meg mentioned that Barbara will be returning to work starting April 16.

10.     It’s not too early to begin thinking about the Fourth of July parade!  The theme this year:  Brown Memorial Library Night Owls.
.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, May 2, at 6:00 p.m.  Rod will take the minutes in the absence of the Secretary.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Nola Jordan
Secretary
