Library Trustee Minutes 05.02.12

DRAFT Minutes from May 2, 2012

The Board Meeting for the Trustees of Brown Memorial Library was called to order at 6:00 p.m.
Attendance:    Patty Furness, Bea Howe, Lorraine Macleod, Rod Jones, Connie Scheffy,   Mary-Chris Duncan, Garry Kalajian, Meg Fearnley
1.    All officers were re-elected to their current positions:  Patty Furness, chair; Nola Jordan, secretary; Bea Howe, treasurer.  Chair Patty Furness welcomed back Garry Kalajian as an alternate and seated him for Nola Jordan.
2.    The Secretary’s Report was accepted as presented.
3.    A motion was made and passed to accept gifts and donations to Brown Memorial Library in April in the amount of $387.   The mud season book sale brought in $335.  Former trustee Bob Manchester has been selling some books for us on line and we thank him.  We have received the second installment of our appropriation.  The balance will be received when tax money comes in.  The Treasurer’s Report was accepted.
3.    The Librarian’s Report was presented and discussed.  There was quite a jump in the downloadable e-books.  The number of program attendees was up because of the Easter Egg Hunt.  The two pre-school groups in town still come for story time on Mondays and Wednesdays and take out lots of books.  Our computers are busy every day and there are sometimes people waiting in line.
4.     A kind resident who donated $1000 several months ago has donated an additional $4000 in memory of her parents and Milly Kittredge.  The money will be used to buy books.  We are very grateful!
5.     Our next book sale will take place Saturday, May 26th.  We need to do more to advertise the sales.  Lorraine has volunteered to put notices in the local papers.  We have e-mailed book dealers with the dates of this year’s sales.  We have decided to close the sale area to patrons during the book sale season.  Rod will be taking some of the books to auctions.
6.     The trustees agreed that it would be nice to have a rectangular table in place of the round one in the area where we hold our meetings.  Meg will measure, keeping in mind the rules for wheelchair accessibility.  Garry and Lorraine will both look into this for us.
7.     The planning for the Summer Reading Program is going well.  Assistant librarian Laurie Buchar has made up flyers for the program, titled “Night Magic”, and will be going to the school to promote it.
8.     Patty has access to a flat-bed trailer for the parade.  We will be the Library Night Owls, reading books in bed.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, June 6, at 6:00 p.m.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Rod Jones
