Minutes from June 6, 2012
The Board Meeting for the Trustees of Brown Memorial Library was called to order at 6:05 p.m.
Attendance: Patty Furness, Lorraine Macleod, Bea Howe, Meg Fearnley, Nola Jordan
1. The secretary’s report was accepted as presented.
2. A motion was made and passed to accept donations to Brown Memorial Library in May in the amount of $4,911.00. $4,000.00 of that amount is the gift in memory of the donor’s parents and Milly Kittredge. $826.00 came from the Memorial Day book and plant sale. Bea also mentioned that receipts from the copier are not down as much as she expected considering how much we lowered the price. The Treasurer’s Report was accepted as presented.
3. Meg noted that circulation figures for last month are down slightly, though more or less on a par with previous years.
4. Under Old Business, everyone admired the lovely rectangular oak table that Lorraine found for us on Craig’s List. Not only is it very functional and in excellent condition, but because it was a donation to Habitat for Humanity our $125.00 is going to that organization.
5. The trustees agreed that of the two flatbed trailers Patty has access to the one that is 8 ft. by 8 ft. is the best for our needs in the Independence Day Parade on July 7. The Brown Memorial Library Night Owls will wear pyjamas and nightcaps (Bea has a pattern) and will be reclining on pillows while reading oversized books borrowed from book sale donations. Lorraine has a headboard that we may be able to secure to the flatbed. The two old Friends’ signs will be adapted to match our theme and will be attached to either side of the truck.
6. Given that we did not have full attendance it was decided to once again postpone reviewing and updating the library’s policies until the next meeting.
7. Under New Business, Meg explained that the Capital Improvement Request form must be returned to the town by July 27. They are interested in any expenditures of more than $10,000.00 that we might be contemplating in the future. Everyone is asked to consider the matter and we will discuss it at the July meeting.
8. The Friends of the Library had their annual meeting and discussed possible programs for the coming year.
9. Our next book and plant sale will be on July 7.
Because of the holiday, the next meeting will be Wednesday, July 11, at 6:00 p.m.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Nola Jordan
Secretary
