The secretary’s report was accepted as presented.
A motion was made and passed to accept donations to Brown Memorial Library in June in the amount of $152.00. Bea reported that finances are running as expected for this time of year. The Treasurer’s Report was accepted as presented.
June circulation figures look strong, particularly the number of adult materials loaned and downloaded e-books. The summer reading program begins July 10 and runs for four Wednesdays. Odds Bodkin has agreed to take the role of Zeus in the play loosely based on the Persephone myth that will be performed on the last night, July 31. Laurie Buchar has been organizing the play from her home as she recuperates from surgery. The Friends of Brown Memorial Library will provide the refreshments on the 31st and one of the Friends has offered to provide snacks for the other evenings as well.
Under Old Business, it was reported that the ceiling fans are here and will be installed as soon as there is enough of a break in the weather so that it is feasible for the electrician to work up in the attic.
Under New Business, Erica described the Parthenon float that is nearing completion and final details of the gods’ and goddesses’ costumes were discussed. We are looking forward to an outstanding entry in the Fourth of July weekend parade on the 6th. Our assistant librarians, Elsa Weir, Maggi Ainslie, and Jean Kennedy, will serve as Grand Marshals of the parade.
Shifts for the book and plant sale on July 6th were organized and Meg mentioned that Janet could use more plants.
Meg announced that Andrew Pinard has agreed to do a magic show for all ages on Friday, August 9, at 7:00 p.m.
The Masons have most generously offered to host another fund-raising dinner for the library on Saturday, August 17, from 5 to 7 pm. As in the past, volunteers will be asked to provide desserts.
Bea mentioned that Jill Pinard has been elected President of the Friends. She is interested in starting a chess club and in providing some activities for teens.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 7, at 6:00 p.m.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:37 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Nola Jordan, Secretary
