Minutes from Nov. 3, 2008
Board Meeting for the Trustees of Brown Memorial Library
Attendance: Joan Perry, Bob Manchester, Penny Ulrich, Rod Jones, Bea Howe, Brooks McCandlish & Meg Fearnley
1. The minutes from the last meeting were read. Motion was made to amend item 7, changing granite to concrete for the new bench. Minutes were accepted as amended.
2. A motion was made to accept gifts and donations made to Brown Memorial Library from Oct. 1 through Oct. 31 in the amount of $513.50 (from the book sale and in lieu of fines). We received an additional appropriation from the town in the amount of $1000 for increased fuel costs. The amended 2009 budget was passed out. The treasurer’s report was accepted.
3. The librarian’s report was read. Meg reported that there is not much change from last year. Lots of trick-or-treaters came by to fill up, but they weren’t counted this year. The report was accepted.
4. The next book sale will be held on November 29th. It will be a “help fuel the library” sale. Bea, Joan & Brooks have volunteered, with Bob & Penny as stand-bys. Joan will make chili!
5. Ownership of the property was discussed, as well as who has responsibility for the outside maintenance. At this time, the library is responsible, as reflected in our maintenance budget.
The selectmen have been exploring ways of saving money throughout the town and it was discussed how this might affect the library. When our post office box rent comes due, we will look into getting a mailbox for delivery.
6. Some patrons have taken out books of some value from the library over a period of time. They have been informed that the books need to be returned or paid for at replacement value. Meg sends out three letters asking that the books be returned or paid for. She has the option of contacting the police but has not used it as yet. She has telephoned several borrowers but there has been no response.
7. The next meeting will be December 1 at 7pm.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:28 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Rod Jones, acting secretary
