Meeting Minutes 12.02.15
Attendance: Mary-Chris Duncan, Sandy Wadlington, Nola Jordan, Patty Furness, Meg Fearnley, Garry Kalajian, Peter Blank
Meeting called to order at 6:05pm
Secretary Connie Scheffy was absent; Sandy Wadlington took notes.
A motion to accept November minutes was passed.
Peter Blank was notified he was accepted by the Selectmen to be a replacement trustee for Erica Gross. There was a discussion about running again in March.
Treasurer’s Report: There was a discussion about the non-resident fee (for library privileges). Meg explained the fee is often determined by taking the annual budget of the library and dividing it by the town population. Library Trustees have chosen to keep the fee at $12/year.
There was a discussion about the reciprocal relationship with the Newbury Public Library.
Payroll explanation that large payroll happens 2-3 times a year when a month has 3 bi-weekly pay periods.
The 2016 budget was given to the Town Office one month ago.
Donations and the monthly report were accepted unanimously.
Librarian’s Report: Discussion of budget and comparison with similar sized area libraries. Newbury’s budget is almost twice Bradford’s as some staff are full-time with benefits and Newbury’s library is open six days/week.
Talked about BML participation in International Games Day-Nov. 21 (1st time). Nine people attended, board games were played, and it was deemed a success.
Old Business: Patty got outside LED lights which she will install.
Garry talked about testing LED light bulbs (to possibly replace flourescents) with existing fixtures. It didn’t work, so we will continue to explore funding for replacement of fixtures in the new year.
New Business: Discussion about Dec. 12th social event with First Baptist Church including Santa, Women’s Club and the Bradford Business Association, stories with Laurie Buchar, snacks, tree-lighting & carolling. All invited.
Bea Howe and Patty Furness will install holiday lights on the spruce tree.
Peter and Bob Blank will install the new fiberglass door downstairs.
A discussion about a Historical Society event (on Poor Farms with Steve Taylor) to be held at the library on Jan. 28 at 7pm.
Meeting adjourned at 6:40pm.
