ARTICLE 1 – ADVERTISEMENT
1.01 PREQUALIFICATION
A. The Town of Bradford is seeking to prequalify potential covered bridge contractors for the rehabilitation of the above covered bridge. Prequalification does not bind any contractor to bid on the proposed project.
The prequalification process consists of completing a prequalification statement/form, providing additional supporting data relative to covered bridge and heavy timber construction or rehabilitation, and submitting this form and information to the Engineer.
B. Prequalification statements/forms will be received at the office of the Engineer until 1:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday, March 31, 2020. Prequalification statements/forms received after this time will not be accepted.
C. The Town of Bradford with the assistance of the Engineer will determine if a contractor that has submitted a prequalification statement/form is qualified to submit a bid on the project. Bidding documents will be made available only to those contractors deemed qualified.
1.02 PROJECT DESCRIPTION
A. OWNER: Town of Bradford, NH ENGINEER: Hoyle, Tanner & Associates, Inc.
B. The Bement Covered Bridge project includes a full rehabilitation of the bridge for a 6-ton live load capacity. The project includes the following major work items.
- Removal and replacement of deteriorated wooden truss bridge members.
- Removal, re-arrangement and installation of new floor beams, new decking and curbing.
- Removal and replacement of the entire bottom chord.
- Siding replacement.
- New timber approach railing supported by cast-in-place concrete moment slabs.
- Complete replacement of the north abutment with a new dry laid stone abutment.
- Construction of new concrete backwalls.
- Repair of existing wingwalls.
- Temporary river diversion.
- Application of a fire-retardant coating.
- Shoring and jacking of the bridge.
- Minor approach roadway improvements.
The anticipated project schedule is to bid the project in the spring of 2020 and complete by end of the year. The Engineer’s Estimate of Cost for this project is between $1.0M – $1.1M.
C. This project is being partially funded with Federal Funds and therefore must comply with all applicable Federal Regulations including Davis-Bacon wage rates.
